June 2014

We are glad to hear that you are interested in joining the Illinois/Wisconsin District Youth Cabinet.

Joining the youth cabinet is a great responsibility that can, and will, challenge you as an individual and as a member of a group of cabinet members who are out to enhance the spirituality of the youth in our district. As members of the district youth cabinet, we attend meetings, plan retreats, organize district youth functions, and report to the (adult) district board on the activities of the Illinois/Wisconsin youth. There are at least 4 meetings and 3 retreats during the year.

While this may sound like a lot of work (and at times it is), being a member of the youth cabinet is incredible, rewarding, and fun. Although we do have many cabinet meetings throughout the year, these meetings are not just for business. Each meeting and event is usually in a different part of the state of Illinois... so not only do you get to travel, but also you get to visit with your friends. The people that make up our youth cabinet have a deep bond that goes beyond friendship—from cabinet members, to advisors, to district leaders—we are one body in Christ, and we do not stand alone!

In filling out this application, ask questions, talk to your youth advisors at your church, call someone you know who is on cabinet, find out what you really want/need to know about us, and of course... PRAY about it! We also ask you to have someone such as your pastor or a mentor fill out a recommendation form. Note, that while it is not a requirement that you be a member of the Church of the Brethren in order to join the Cabinet, we do require that your recommendation come from someone who is a member.

The District Youth's mission statement:
"The Illinois/Wisconsin District Youth Cabinet exists to build community among the youth of the district by planning retreats and other events in order to strengthen relationships with one another and with God. Peacefully, Simply, Together"

We conduct business together, we have fun together, we laugh, play, and pray together—but above all that, we serve our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. If God is calling you to this ministry, we hope you will consider joining us!

Peace and Love,

The IL/WI District Youth Cabinet
